Ring-tailed lemurs are a primate native to Madagascar. They are an endangered species, but are the most common species of lemur in US collections. They are diurnal animals that have a 20 year life span. Their diet consists of small mammals, insects and primarily leaves and fruits. There are a few leafeater diets on the market which are specially designed for lemurs. They can make charming captives, but like any primate require a tremendous amount of care. They are very social animals and live in troops of up to 25.
